Why May Is a Critical Month for Study Permits 🗓️
If you plan to start college in Ontario in the coming months and still haven’t submitted your study permit application, May is likely your last safe window.
Processing times vary by country, but study permits can take 8 to 12 weeks or longer. Waiting too long can mean missing your program’s start date and having to defer your admission.

Why You Should Not Wait Any Longer ⏳
📌 PALs are limited. If your school has not yet issued your Provincial Attestation Letter, availability may already be shrinking.📌 Visa approvals slow down in summer. IRCC typically sees a spike in applications between June and August.📌 Colleges have firm start dates. If your permit arrives too late, your admission may be cancelled or delayed.
What You Need to Apply for Your Study Permit
To apply successfully, you need the following:
A valid Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution
A Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) issued by your Ontario college
Proof of at least 20,635 CAD in available funds for living expenses
A valid passport
All supporting documents translated and properly formatted
If any of these are missing or incorrect, IRCC may return or refuse your application.
What Happens If You Apply Too Late
If your study permit is not approved in time for your college’s intake, you may need to
Defer your admission to the next semester
Reapply for a new study permit
Reconfirm PAL eligibility with your college
Some students also lose tuition deposits or housing reservations due to delays.
